What Is Magic: The Gathering?

Magic: The Gathering is a fantasy trading card game where players take on the role of wizards, summoning creatures and casting spells to defeat their opponents. With thousands of cards to choose from, there’s endless room to build a deck that expresses exactly how you want to play, whether that means a horde of dragons, a cunning control deck, or something stranger entirely.

You can play Magic casually with friends, competitively at tournaments, or online through digital versions of the game. That range of ways to play is what gives it such broad appeal, from a casual group round a kitchen table to players chasing competitive glory.

The Magic Range at Nerdworks

Our shelves are stocked with recent sets including Reality Fracture, The Hobbit and Marvel Super Heroes, alongside a wide range of out of print, older and hard-to-find Magic sets for collectors hunting something specific. We also carry Commander precons, including the Foundations Commander Decks, plus TCG accessories such as binders, sleeves and deck boxes to keep a collection organised and protected.

How to Get Started with Magic: The Gathering

The easiest way into Magic is a ready-to-play Commander precon deck, such as one of the Foundations Commander Decks, which hands you a complete deck built to work straight out of the box. Our staff are on hand in store to help both newcomers and seasoned collectors work out what to buy, so there’s a friendly steer if you’re not sure where to start.
