How Grading and Selling Works

Everything you need to know before you bring your cards in: how we grade condition, the ways we can buy or sell them for you, and what to bring. Selling happens at the counter, and there's no appointment needed.

Which Cards We Take

We buy and sell Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering singles. We take Japanese Pokémon cards too. For our other games (Lorcana, One Piece, Cyberpunk TCG, Flesh and Blood and Yu-Gi-Oh!) we sell new product but don’t take singles yet.

Pokémon

Magic

We don’t buy cards worth under £10 one at a time. Got a big collection? Bring it in anyway: we buy whole collections too, and sort them ourselves.

Grading

We grade every card at the counter, by eye, with you there. We only take cards in two conditions.

NM

Near Mint

Looks unplayed. Sharp corners, clean edges, no scratches or whitening you can see at arm’s length.

Valued at the full market price.

LP

Lightly Played

Minor wear from careful play: slight edge whitening or a light surface scuff, nothing more.

Valued at 90% of the Near Mint price.

Anything more worn than Lightly Played we can’t take, whichever way you’re selling.

How do you decide the market price?

We check current UK and European market prices for that exact card, printing and finish, mainly from Cardmarket, and use the Near Mint price as the starting point.

Ways to Sell

There are three ways to sell us your cards. You choose at the counter, card by card.

Way to sellWhat you getWhen you’re paidGood for
Cash55–70% of market valueOn the spot, at the counterQuick money, cards £10 and up
Store credit10 points more than cash: 65–80%On the spot, as a credit notePutting it straight back into cards
ConsignmentThe sale price, minus 12% commissionWhen your card sellsHigher-value cards, £50 and up

What’s consignment?

We list your card for sale as Nerdworks stock and pay you when it sells, minus our commission. You tell us the lowest price you’d accept. We never show who a card came from.

Why do bigger cards pay a higher percentage?

Our offer rises with the card’s value, so the more a card is worth, the bigger the share you get.

Can I trade cards for cards?

Not yet. Trades are coming soon. For now, choose store credit and spend it the same day.

What to Bring

  • Your cards, loose or sleeved, sorted if you can
  • Photo ID: a passport or driving licence. We check it for every sale, whatever the value.
  • Ten minutes. We grade and price each card in front of you.

The first time you sell to us, you’ll agree to our terms of business. Each visit we’ll also ask you to confirm the cards are yours to sell.

Questions

Do I need an appointment?

No. Just bring your cards to the counter any time we’re open.

Do you buy Japanese Pokémon cards?

Yes, alongside the rest of our Pokémon singles.

Can I see what’s happened to my consigned cards?

Yes. Your account shows which of your cards we’re holding, the price they’re listed at, and whether they’ve sold and been paid.

Do I need a receipt for the cards?

No. We just ask you to confirm the cards are yours to sell.

Is store credit usable online?

Not yet. Store credit is a credit note you spend in the shop.
